Tucson City Council members serve four-year terms, but elections are staggered — so only half the seats are on the ballot every two years. Wards 3, 5 and 6 are up for re-election this fall, with 10 total candidates in the upcoming primary. The Ward 5 election will be closely watched, following former city council member Richard Fimbres retirement due to health reasons.

There are three ballot drop-off locations throughout the city, open now until Aug. 4. Voters can drop their ballots or cast a ballot in person at four in-person voting locations on election day on Aug. 5. The last day to drop mail-in ballots in the mail is July 30.

Whoever wins the three primaries will appear on the general election ballot on Nov. 4.
