With just under a month until the general election, Pima County has more active registered voters than the 2020 and 2016 elections.
On Tuesday, Pima County election officials said they were still processing a large volume of last-minute registrations the day after the Oct. 7 deadline.
However, over 4,500 new registrations have been received in the last week, bringing the county’s total to over 655,000 active registered voters.
Compared to the 2020 election, the number of active voters has increased by over 12,000, and compared to 2016, over 106,000 more. But the party affiliation of those voters has shifted.
In 2020, over 40% of Pima County voters were registered as Democrats. In the four years since, that number has dropped 3%, while the number of unaffiliated voters has increased by the same amount.
Unaffiliated voters make up just over a third of registered voters so far this year. The number of Republicans has stayed consistent since 2020 at about 27% of county voters.
